We recently had a special visit from Dennis O’Herron. William and John Muldoon are Dennis’s 2nd great-uncles.
Dennis’s oldest brother, Rick O’Herron of Winchester, Massachusetts, asked his niece Anne O’Herron Rizzo and brother Dennis O’Herron to present the sword to the town of Belfast as a generous gift and permanent loan so that everyone can honor and learn the story of a great Belfast Native and Civil War hero, U.S. Union Army soldier John Muldoon.
We are grateful to the O’Herron family for helping preserve and share this important piece of Belfast history. Thank you so much!

Beth Hazelton, Belfast Central School Teacher and Trail Town Leader has visited us here at the Historical Society Museum to dig up information on the Genesee Valley Canal, Railroads, and more to do with the Historical Trail.

I would like to extend a sincere thank you to our local Dollar General for their generous donation of cans and bottles. A total of 1,412 cans and bottles were collected, raising $70.60 for the Belfast Historical Society. We are pleased to share that these funds will go directly toward our Historical Society Scholarship Fund. Community support like this truly makes a difference, and we are grateful for the continued generosity of the Dollar General staff.

NY Patriot Burial Representative Tim Middlebrook informed Belfast Historical Society VP Joshua Cole that the White Creek Cemetery will be granted a SAR Patriot Burial Pomeroy Sign to Honor Jasper Partridge and Josiah Heyward. BHS is proud to say they’re granted 3 Patriot Burial Signs.

Joshua Cole was interviewed twice by local TV News Outlet WGRZ Channel 2 about his new movie Holiday Touchdown: A Bills Love Story. Joshua Cole was a Stand-In for the Santa Claus (played by Abraham Benrubi) and was featured Bills Fan in the Bills Hallmark Christmas Movie.

Vice President Cole announced that there will be an unveiling ceremony for the William G. Pomeroy Foundation Roadside Marker Sign for William Muldoon’s Training Barns. The Ceremony will be September 24, 2025 at Noon at the Bare Knuckle Boxing Hall of Fame. The Wednesday before the Bare Knuckle Fights over in Salamanca September 27, 2025. PUBLIC IS WELCOME!

Then to Harrison, NY to visit The Last Property Owned by William Muldoon AKA Olympia. Then after all that visit Journalist Nellie Bly’s Grave at the Woodlawn Cemetery in The Bronx.

Our Senior Student Braeden Geyer has been cataloging our maps and digitizing the catalog. Braeden has volunteered so many hours that we have rewarded him with a one year membership to the Belfast Historical Society. CONGRATULATIONS BRAEDEN GEYER!
Vice President Cole has been putting up videos and has access to the Historical Society Website and will continue to add content and updates with our Historical Society.
Member Daniel Fox has been working on a new booklet for another iconic Belfast Person.
Wende and Paul Kenyon are still working on our new Historical Society Shirts with White Imprints. Also had DiRienzo’s make a new Historical Society Banner with our new Motto. “Preserving Our Story, Our History, Our Legacy.”
